Menstrual Pads That Glitter: Feminine Products For The Pre-Teen Crowd

It’s not news to me that girls who are between eight and twelve years of age are now getting their first periods.  I know this because I have friends with daughters.  There is a part of me that squirms with the idea of girls this young having to deal with grown up issues such as menstruation.  But apparently, this has become the new normal – and with the coming of age of very young girls has come some very smart and I think very pro-girl product ideas.

Enter  U by Kotex Tween which is a product especially made for young girls. The pads are designed for smaller bodies and not only are is the packaging fun and bright making anybody feel good about getting their periods – the pads themselves are decorated with hearts, stars and other whimsical designs.   Frankly,  I love it.  It is a positive body message -  supporting girls in feeling good about menstruation.  No more medical looking and subdued packaging that carried it’s own messages of “keeping our periods private and quiet”.

These pads somehow bring a spirit of celebration to girls getting their periods – and to me – a seasoned fertility advocate that spells real change for the better.

Now – can they make a cool pad for us more seasoned women? I wouldn’t mind a few hearts and stars on my menstrual pads!
