I know a little about leading with my chin and taking it on the chin. You know what I mean by that right? It’s the ability to go to uncomfortable places in your life and not “duck and cover” , something that I wrote about last week in regards to dealing with infertility.
But life is full of taking it on the chin moments – and it is how we respond to those moments, not those moments in of themselves that creates the fabric of our lives.
I have been thinking a lot about people who have taken it on the chin and not gone away to hide since the funeral of Senator Ted Kennedy. I had no idea how many times that man either led with his chin or received a hard right hook before his death. I was truly amazed at his resilience.
Sometimes life gave him the whacks, sometimes he created the situations himself. The one thing is for sure is that he showed up for all of it – and in the end was a winner in his own life. I love that. That kind of living inspires me and sends my blood racing through my body.
Life is full of choices – we can duck and cover. We can reach for band aids. We can hide under our covers and avoid what challenges us. Or we can be like Ted Kennedy and show up for all the flavors of our lives.
I know what I am committed to doing. How about you?
