Anyone that knows me – knows that I am not conservative or prim and proper. In fact – what is the direct opposite of that? That would be me. I often play out of the box when it comes to ideas – and I have been ahead of the curve when it comes to fertility and sex education. I talk about it all – and I am very accepting of many ideas that I am sure would not be accepted by many. I am sure that I am considered many things from inspiring to controversial – and that will not change with time. So, I hesitate to feel grumpy about others. After all – we all have a right to get out there in our own way.
Yes, I am leading up to something. It is this blog! I have been struggling with whether or not I should comment…I have worried that I am just becoming a cranky pants. What is it that we are trying to communicate to patients, legislators, insurance companies and the media.
What is our message? Recently an IVF Raffle was annouced. People were encouraged to buy tickets. How would you feel if you read about a heart transplant raffle? Or a chemo raffle? Would you recoil in horror? Do you know that it is illegal in some states to raffle off a puppy? Yet – we are telling the world that it is okay to raffle off the chance at a baby. Think about that. What image does that send out about reproductive medicine? Is this alright? Would you raffle off a baby? In many ways – that is what is being offered here. A chance at a chance of a baby. How many tickets would you buy?
