I couldn’t wait for Julie & Julia to open.  And yesterday afternoon I got my chance to see it. You see I hardly ever go to the movies. There is nothing that I can’t wait to see six months later on “Pay Per View” or Net Fliks. But that is me.

I had to see this one just as it opened because I am huge Julia Child fan - and it has nothing to do with her cooking. It is Julia Child’s story that gets me every time. You see - for me - it’s all about how Julia Child was not always Julia Child.  She was a woman who followed her passion in life - and created something that was never there before.  I love when people do that. It really rocks my world.

And loved how honestly they handled her infertility in the movie - in a beginning scene when she noticed a baby carriage going by - and her devoted husband gently kissed her hand - in acknowledgment of the pain.  And then when her sister got pregnant - and she broke down while saying how happy she was for her.  What I loved about that was how her husband loved her - and cared for her through her emotion.  This was really a love story on so many levels.

When you think of Julia Child - it’s fine to think about the mastering the art of French cooking.  You can do as Julie did and cook all of her recipes in one year! I have never cooked even one! But for me - Julia Child is a hero of sorts -  a role model of how we can create our lives and who we want to be in the world if we only  have enough passion, courage and determination.  And remember what Julia Child’s always said - “Never apologize for your mistakes - serve your dishes proudly even when it is a little burnt!” and if the pancake drops on the floor and you are alone “Who is to know?”
